Contact Us
Questions, bug reports and corrections are all welcome. One inbox reaches the people who actually build and maintain the compass — there is no ticket queue to be routed through.
No account or sign-up is needed to write to it, and we do not add senders to any kind of mailing list. Because the compass collects nothing about you, there is no reference number to quote and no ticket to look up.
What we can help with
- A reading that will not settle. Say which device and browser you are using and what is nearby — a magnetic case, a car mount and a metal desk all change the answer.
- Something broken. A description of what you expected and what happened instead is more useful than a screenshot alone, though both are welcome.
- A correction. The guide pages are only worth anything if they are right. If something here is wrong — about declination, calibration or anything else — tell us and it will be fixed.
- Accessibility and translation. If something is unusable with a screen reader or in your language, that is a bug rather than a preference.
Try these first
Most messages are about one of three things, and each is already written up in full. They will usually answer faster than we can.
FAQ
Permissions, magnetic versus true north, offline use, spoken readout and why a laptop shows no heading.
Accuracy & calibration
Why a reading drifts, what interferes with a magnetometer, and how to run the figure-8 calibration.
How to use it
Granting motion access on iPhone and Android, holding the phone correctly, and locking a bearing.
Privacy and legal requests
Requests about personal data, and questions about the privacy policy or the terms of service, go to the same address. Be aware that because the compass has no account, no sign-up and no server that receives a heading, there is generally no personal data held about you to access, correct or erase — but the request is welcome either way, and will be answered.
Response time
This is a small, independently run project rather than a staffed support desk, so replies are not instant. Genuine bug reports and corrections are read first, and everything gets an answer — it may just take a few days.
One thing we cannot do is tell you where you are or which way you were facing. The compass never learns either, so there is nothing on our side to look up.
